Key words: biochemical reagent; CHAPS
3-((3-Cholamidopropyl)dimethylammonium)-1-propanesulfonate, commonly referred to as CHAPS, is an amphoteric surfactant. Its related physical properties are as follows:
Product Name: 3-[3-(cholamidopropyl)dimethylamino]propanesulfonic acid inner salt
English name: 3-((3-Cholamidopropyl)dimethylammonium)-1-propanesulfonate
Abbreviation: CHAPS
CAS No.: 75621-03-3
Item No.: D0001

CHAPS is mostly used as an amphoteric surfactant. Meanwhile, in biochemical research, CHAPS can also be used to denaturing and lysing cells, extracting RNA and DNA, using as a protein lysate or as a non-denaturing zwitterionic detergent. In addition, CHAPS can also be used for buffer preparation, such as HEPES-CHAPS buffer used in Caspase analysis.
