Indole -3- carbinol (700-06-1) on intimal proliferation after arterial injury in rats

 Objective: To observe the effect of indole -3- carbinol on rat injured arterial intimal hyperplasia and to explore the possible mechanism.

Methods: the balloon dilation method, to establish a model of rat common carotidartery injury. 20 Sprague-Dawley rats, were randomly divided into simple balloon dilation group (control group) and balloon + indole -3- carbinol treatment group(treatment group), the treatment group was divided into 3 subgroups, gastric perfusion in balloon dilatation for indole -3- carbinol 7d, doses were 12.5, 25,50mg /d 2 weeks later, taken for histopathological examination and immunohistochemical staining sections of blood vessel injury.

Results: the treatment group, endometrial thickness, area were significantly less than that of the control group (P0.05); the degree of luminal stenosis decreased by 25.2%, 29.9%, 48.5% respectively compared with the control group. Theexpression of PCNA positive cells in treatment group was obviously lower than that of the control group. Apoptosis in the treatment group compared with the control group, the uniform rate of cells
